Öztoprak Cami

Öztoprak Camii occupies a corner plot in one of Mamak's older residential blocks, its name combining the Turkish words for 'pure' and 'earth' — a pairing that nods gently to the doctrine that the whole earth has been made a place of prostration for the community of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم. During Ramadan, the forecourt becomes an informal meeting point where neighbours exchange dates and small cups of soup at sunset. On winter mornings before fajr, the forecourt is one of the first patches of warm lamplight to appear on the dark street, and the sight of worshippers arriving in heavy coats through the silent neighbourhood is itself a small and moving scene of the ordinary faithfulness that sustains every mosque, everywhere, through every season of the year.
