About

Çağrı Camii — the 'Mosque of the Call' — takes its name from the old Turkish word çağrı meaning a summons or invitation, the word often used to translate the concept of daʿwa, the call to Islam. It is a name whose theological weight is considerable, and it has been given to this neighbourhood mosque in Mamak with the intention of reminding every worshipper that the adhan resounding from its minaret is not a mere ritual but an invitation — to God, to prayer, to success, to a life ordered by remembrance. The mosque itself is a compact, well-proportioned structure with a single minaret, a central dome, and a small forecourt paved in stone. Inside, the prayer hall accommodates several hundred worshippers, with a carpet in the familiar Turkish pattern, a cream-plastered mihrab, and a carved wooden minbar. The imam's recitation is careful and affecting, and his Friday sermons often return to the themes of responding to the call: the daily call of the muezzin, the broader call of the Qur'an to a life of awareness, the personal call of conscience that a believer must learn to hear. Women pray in a comfortable upper gallery, and there are Qur'an classes for children during the summer and weekly adult study circles throughout the year. Ablution facilities are clean and heated. During Ramadan the mosque runs a full programme of tarawih and occasional community iftars organised by local families. The mosque's adhan, broadcast five times a day through a careful arrangement of external speakers, is known in the surrounding streets for the particular clarity and sweetness of its delivery, and local residents have sometimes remarked that even those who might not otherwise be minded to pray find themselves paused in their work for a moment when the call rises from the minaret. For Muslim visitors to Mamak, Çağrı Camii is a welcoming and thoughtful place to pray, and the very name of the building, repeated silently each time one crosses its threshold, is a gentle reminder to respond to the call with one's whole heart.
