About

Nestled in the town of Shazand, within the Markazi province of central Iran, the mosque of Hazrat Abul Fadl, upon him be peace, also known as Musalla Shazand and as the cultural centre of Shuhada al Mihrab, serves as one of the town's main gathering places for prayer, remembrance, and community formation. Shazand itself lies in a fertile valley between the Zagros ridges and the central Iranian plateau, watered by streams that sustain wheat fields, orchards, and traditional villages. The town is best known regionally for its large petrochemical complex and for the devotion of its residents to mosque life throughout the four seasons.

The title Abul Fadl, Father of Virtue, is one of the names honoured by the family of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family. Coupled with the words Shuhada al Mihrab, the martyrs of the prayer niche, the naming of this centre recalls the virtue of those who gave their lives in the path of God and the dignity of the mihrab from which every imam leads believers toward the qiblah. Each worshipper entering here passes beneath a name that gently teaches courage, generosity, and the patient guarding of prayer in every circumstance of daily life.

Architecturally, the complex pairs the large open hall of a musalla, a place of prayer used for great gatherings, with the more intimate spaces of the cultural centre. A mihrab of tiled geometric design, a wooden minbar, carpets of deep blue and crimson, and gas heaters warming the air during the long winters define the interior. Courtyards outside offer shaded benches where elders wait calmly between the prayers of Maghrib and Isha.

Beyond the five daily prayers and Jumu'ah, the centre hosts lectures, Qur'anic classes, processions during Muharram, and long nights of remembrance in Ramadan. On this page, visitors, travellers, and newcomers to Shazand will find accurate daily prayer times, the precise location of the mosque, and community notes that make it straightforward for any guest crossing Markazi province to stop, perform wudu without hurry, and join this warm congregation during any season of the year.
