About

Al Madrasa Hassanayn Islamiya takes its name from Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn, the beloved grandsons of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), and from that opening the visitor can sense the deep respect for the Prophetic household that shapes the atmosphere of this Magomeni mosque and school. Located in a busy quarter of Dar es Salaam, the complex serves a largely Swahili-speaking congregation and runs as both a working masjid for the five daily prayers and a grassroots madrasa for neighbourhood children. The building itself is modest in scale, typical of many Tanzanian mosques built through community subscription rather than large donor funding, but it is kept clean and cared for by a rotation of volunteers. Worshippers gather here for jumu'ah and for all obligatory prayers, with particularly strong attendance at fajr when the cool morning air and the first call over the rooftops draw people from their homes. The khutbah is usually delivered in Kiswahili, anchored in Qur'an and sunnah, and often touches on the themes of family life, honesty in trade and the upbringing of children. On the education side, afternoon classes run for boys and girls separately in most sessions, covering Qur'an recitation, tajweed, basic Arabic, the pillars of faith and the essential fiqh of worship. Teachers place strong emphasis on respect for parents and elders, reflecting both Islamic teaching and Swahili cultural values. Hassanayn Islamiya is especially active during Ramadan, with nightly taraweeh prayers, shared iftars and a visible uptick in attendance that shows how the neighbourhood rallies around its mosque when the holy month arrives. Visitors are received kindly, and any support — whether in the form of donated books, prayer mats or small financial contributions — helps keep the doors open and the lessons running. Special gatherings are held each year around the month of Muharram and around the blessed days of Rabi' al-Awwal, in which the congregation reflects on the love of the Prophet's household and the lessons their lives continue to offer for every generation of believers.
