About

Dedicated to Hazrat Abu al Fadl al Abbas, peace be upon him, the noble son of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib, may God be pleased with him, and bearer of the banner at Karbala, this Arak mosque in the Markazi province of central Iran also functions as a cultural centre named in memory of Shahid Kushk, a martyr whose sacrifice the community preserves through its dedication. Abbas ibn Ali, peace be upon him, is revered across the Muslim world for his loyalty to his brother Imam Husayn, peace be upon him, at the battle of Karbala, where he bore the standard until he was cut down while trying to bring water to the thirsty children of the Prophet's household. His courage, his selflessness, and his absolute devotion continue to inspire believers throughout every generation. Arak itself is the capital of Markazi province, a historically significant city whose industrial and agricultural economies support a substantial population. Iranian mosque architecture carries one of the richest traditions in the Islamic world, with glazed tile work, muqarnas vaulted entries, broad iwan portals, and domed prayer halls whose acoustics amplify the reciter's voice. This mosque and cultural centre draws on that tradition, with tiled decoration, a carpeted prayer hall, and a mihrab niche surrounded by delicate inscriptions. The cultural centre dimension hosts lectures, poetry readings, noha and marthiya recitations, and educational programmes for youth. Five daily prayers gather neighbourhood worshippers, and Jumu'ah fills the hall with larger numbers. Sermons in Persian draw from Qur'anic ayaat, hadith, and the recorded sayings of the Imams of the Ahl al Bayt, peace be upon them. Ramadan transforms the calendar, and the month of Muharram brings especially intense programmes of commemoration. Qur'anic memorisation classes meet through the year. Women participate fully in the cultural and educational programmes. Nearby attractions include the Arak four seasons bazaar, the famous refinery complex, the Timcheh Haj Hassan architectural complex, and the scenic mountain landscapes that frame daily life across this central Iranian province. Spring gatherings at the cultural centre often feature young poets reciting their own verses alongside traditional elders, keeping alive an Arak literary tradition whose roots reach back through generations of creative expression.
